Braga and Getafe both played on Monday night and both play again on Thursday, about 72 hours later. Braga lost 2–1 at home to Gil Vicente, and Getafe drew 1–1 with Rayo Vallecano after playing more than an hour with ten men. Their Thursday opponents, Gent and Lugano, played a day earlier. Short rest is a real but small effect, and it is not why our two cards against these sides are wide: Gent at 5.25 is a 24.7 point edge and Lugano at 4.62 a 17.2 point edge on our numbers. Both are estimates, not promises.

The two cards

Fixture Our pick Our chance Fair price Best price seen Edge
SC Braga v Gent Gent 43.8% 2.28 5.25, Coolbet, 04:00 UTC 21 Oct +24.7 pts
Getafe v FC Lugano Lugano 38.9% 2.57 4.62, 1xBet, 04:01 UTC 21 Oct +17.2 pts

Both kick off on Thursday 22 October, Getafe at 16:45 UTC and Braga at 19:00 UTC. The full cards are in SC Braga v Gent prediction and odds and Getafe v Lugano prediction and odds.

What happened on Monday

Braga lost at home. Pau Víctor put them ahead, Walace França equalised and Diogo Travassos scored an own goal for the winner, per RTP, which called it a deepening crisis that puts pressure on coach Carlos Vicens. It was our call too: we had Braga at 42.6% at 1.62, a negative-edge call, and it lost.

Getafe drew with ten men. Djené was sent off in the 28th minute, per Rayo Vallecano's report. Martín Satriano equalised in the 56th. A red card in La Liga is served in La Liga, so it should not keep him out on Thursday. Our call on that game was Rayo at 35.6%, a near-zero edge, and it lost.

Rest, side by side

Team Last game Kick-off of next game Rest
Braga Mon 19 Oct, 19:15 UTC, lost 1–2 Thu 22 Oct, 19:00 UTC about 72 hours
Gent Sun 18 Oct, cup, out on penalties after 3–3 Thu 22 Oct, 19:00 UTC about 4 days, after 120 minutes
Getafe Mon 19 Oct, 19:00 UTC, drew 1–1 with ten men Thu 22 Oct, 16:45 UTC about 70 hours
Lugano Sun 18 Oct, cup, won 4–0 Thu 22 Oct, 16:45 UTC about 4 days

Gent's extra day is partly cancelled by playing 120 minutes and losing a cup tie to a third-tier side, per KAA Gent's own report. Getafe spent an hour chasing a game with ten men, which is the more tiring way to play 90 minutes.

What it should do to the price

A day's less rest is worth a little, mostly through rotation: a coach playing his third game in a week changes players, and the price should move when the team sheet shows how many. It is worth far less than the gaps on these two cards. If a bookmaker still has Gent at 5.25, three days' rest for Braga is not the reason the market and we disagree. That disagreement is about how good each side is, and we explain why a gap this wide makes us cautious in why a very wide edge makes us look twice.

What this does not tell you

We do not know how much either coach will rotate until the team sheets arrive, about an hour before kick-off. Rest effects are small and noisy, and nothing here says Gent or Lugano will win: on our numbers Gent fail to win about 56 times in 100 and Lugano about 61.

Common questions

When did Braga and Getafe last play?

Both played on Monday 19 October. Braga lost 2–1 at home to Gil Vicente and Getafe drew 1–1 with Rayo Vallecano after Djené was sent off. Both play again on Thursday 22 October.

What is BAI8's call on SC Braga v Gent?

Gent at 43.8%, fair price 2.28. The best price on 21 October was 5.25 at Coolbet, a 24.7 point edge.

What is BAI8's call on Getafe v Lugano?

Does Djené's red card rule him out against Lugano?

Not normally. A red card in La Liga is served in La Liga, not in UEFA competitions, so the suspension does not carry into the Conference League.
