- Minnesota open without DiVincenzo. ESPN and Hoops Nightly list Donte DiVincenzo out with an Achilles injury, expected back around April. Ayo Dosunmu was resting and is expected back for the opener.
- Miami's new pairing has looked sharp. Yahoo Sports reports that Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo produced 70-point halves together in two preseason games. Miami then beat Brooklyn 144–128 in their home finale, per ESPN.
- The preseason meeting was a coin flip. Minnesota won the exhibition between these two by a single point. Neither side was playing to win, so we read that as noise rather than a signal.
What could make us wrong
Adebayo sat out the Brooklyn game with right groin tightness. Erik Spoelstra said he was "not overly concerned", but if Adebayo is limited or out, a lot of what we like about Miami goes with him. ESPN's own matchup predictor has this almost level, which tells you how far our view sits from other public models. A ten point gap on an opening night, with no regular-season data yet, carries more uncertainty than the same gap in February.
