What a near-zero edge is telling you
A Desk card at −0.1 or +0.2 points is not a soft price. It means our chance and the best quote almost agree. Here is how to read those flat cards.
On this page
Lens v Sporting Lisbon sits on today's Desk at −0.1 points. Our chance on Sporting is 39.1% (fair price 2.56). The best quote we saw was 2.55 at Coolbet. Those two numbers are the same story told twice. A near-zero edge is the market agreeing with us, not a soft price waiting to be taken.
What "flat" actually means
Edge in points is our chance minus the chance implied by the best price. When that difference is about zero, one of three things is true: the research landed on the same view as the sharpest book we checked, the quote moved toward us after we published, or both. None of those is a signal to invent a gap. The definition is in what a positive edge actually means.
Today's Lens card:

| Draw | 27.0% | 3.70 | ||
| Sporting Lisbon | 39.1% | 2.56 | 2.55, Coolbet | −0.1 pts |

Why we still show the card
BAI8 publishes the assessment when the research finishes. Hiding flat or slightly negative cards would turn the Desk into a highlight reel of soft prices, which is exactly how tipster sheets mislead. We wrote that out in why BAI8 publishes negative-edge calls. A −0.1 card is the honest middle of that habit.
What to do with it
Treat it as information. The useful questions are whether the price later drifts above fair, whether team news shifts our chance, and whether you needed a soft price for this stake size in the first place. A flat card answered the research question. It did not create a wagering obligation.
What this does not tell you
It does not say Sporting will win or that Lens is wrong. It does not say every sub-one-point edge is noise in every sport. And it does not replace watching the quote into kick-off.
Common questions
What does a near-zero edge mean on a BAI8 card?
Our chance and the best price we saw almost agree. The market is not offering a clear gap either way.
Should I skip cards with no edge?
That is a staking choice, not a research one. We still publish the number so you can see where we and the market meet.
Is −0.1 points the same as a negative edge tip?
No. We do not tip. A tenth of a point is inside quote noise for most football markets.
