Viking v Bayern Munich Bayern 60.1% 1.12, BetMGM −29.1 pts 3–3 Lost

Scores are from UEFA and BBC Sport. The record now holds 88 settled calls: 52 won, 36 lost. The 15 positive-edge calls have won 5.

What went right and what did not

The two short favourites that failed were the ones we doubted most. The market priced Bayern at 1.12 (89% implied) and Inter at 1.31 (76%). We had them at 60.1% and 48.3%. Viking led 2–0 at half-time, fell 3–2 behind, then equalised in the final minute after Michael Olise was sent off for two yellow cards in a minute, per The Guardian. Club Brugge won 4–3 at San Siro with a hat-trick from Nicolò Tresoldi. Two results do not prove our lower numbers right, but they are the kind of night those numbers allow for. Why a short price still carries real risk is in what a short favourite really risks.

Napoli was the miss that cost. The widest gap of the night, 5.4 points, lost 3–1 after Napoli led early. The settled working is on Villarreal v Napoli prediction and odds.

Barcelona and Arsenal won at prices we thought too short. Winning does not make a negative-edge call a good price; it makes it a call that won.

What this does not tell you

Seven results say almost nothing about whether our chances are right. That needs hundreds of calls, which is the point of how many bets before a record means anything. It also leaves out the NFL and college football calls settled the same day, which sit on the full record.
